I have worked with golfers, and as you can imagine they didn't wish to be
seen standing around on the fairway/green while tapping through the points.
 I did the set-up in the clubhouse with them, and then had them use either
the thymus thump or karate chop to represent the whole shebang. They were
able to do this quite surreptitiously with fantastic results.

When I play tennis, I use the same technique, or just imagine it.
Sometimes, when I feel very strong emotion about a particularly lousy shot,
for instance (I do the odd few :-) I might imagine tapping every point
simultaneously while just thinking a word which sums up the negative
feeling. This seems to work well for me.
