Everyone,
Wow! What wonderful ideas we've seen on the issue of using EFT (and
other energy therapies, too, no doubt) for weight issues.
In May of 2003 I conducted a 5 week, once a week, two hours per session,
clinic on weight management. I included many processes I gathered from
NLP, EFT, RET, hypnotherapy, this and other email groups, and my own
experiences. We had 5 participants, all with body mass indexes over 30.
ALL 5 participants lost at least 1 bmi in the 5 weeks and all but one
dropped below 30 bmi. To date, all are now below 30 bmi and are
remaining so. None have dropped below 25 bmi.
We did ALL the things we've seen in this thread and a few more. One NLP
process I found particularly useful was a simple little "role playing"
game each person did with themselves - with my assistance.
Each person imagined their "perfect" size self out in front of them a
certain distance determined by them ("how far out in front of you is
she?"). We also included a timeframe for this "future self" - "when does
this person you are creating live?" or "when in the future does your
future self live?" I assisted each person to create a reasonable and
safe timeframe.
Each person described in great detail what they imagined - what did she
look like, sound like, feel like, smell like, taste like, etc. - in as
great detail as possible. We even had them imagine how heavily their
"clone" stood on the floor - "how much pressure does she exert on the
floor beneath her?" etc.
Once the image was clearly defined, we then went and stood in the spot
we created. From the perspective of the "new self" we then described how
we looked, sounded, felt, smelled, tasted, etc., in as great detail as
possible - in the persona of the "new self." Then we looked back at the
space we had come from and had a conversation with our "past self" about
how we felt about being the "new self" and some of the ways we got where
we "are now." When we got tears, I knew it was working well...
Then we took ALL the sensations of the "new self" with us back in time
into the space where the "old self" stood just moments before. NOW the
body had a map to its destination. It didn't have to imagine how to get
there - it now KNEW the route. We tapped this knowledge into our bodies
by simply tapping all over our bodies - starting at the crown of the
head and ending with the toes - which follows the brain's central sulcus
into the center of the brain where the pineal and pituitary glands dance
with the limbic system.
I wish I'd have considered your idea, Christina, of having them
investigate their media perceptions - their WHYs. That's great. Thanks.
I no longer work with weight issues unless they are part and parcel with
an anxiety issue, which is my specialty. I found my overall success rate
with weight was just too low - maybe 75% or so of clients achieved their
goals - it bothered me to work many sessions with a client just to see
them unsuccessful with their goal after we'd spent so much time, effort
and money. I have about a 98% success rate with anxiety so I've chosen
to focus my practice there. Still, working with motivated people is
always fun no matter what the issue their working.
Best to all,
JB
