[MT] One Or More?

Hi all,

had a very interesting (well two really) conversation with fellow therapists
today.

It has occurred to me to mention this to everyone just for your interest.

It seems that when you first start out with EFT, there is a drive in the
practitioner to "cure" the problem in one session, then send the client, all
empowered to take care of themselves from thereon in, on their way back out
into the vastness of the universe.

It also seems that this is not always suitable for all clients you might
encounter, for the following reasons:

- ecology.
Making a massive change by taking a life ruling problem away can have side
effects which can be frightening/disturbing/disconcerting to the client.

- need for support
There seem to be clients who simply aren't ready yet to take responsibility
for the entirety of their physical and mental well being, and who either
won't tap after the session or do it a bit and then give up.

- Core problems
Even therapists can't work on core problems all by themselves as a rule. It
always amuses me when I work with another therapist and either they or I go,
"God I can't believe it! I just said the same thing to a client you just
said to me earlier today, and here I am, doing the same thing and making the
same mistake - how could I have missed this????"

Core problems are VERY difficult if not impossible to work on by yourself.
And that's even for experienced people who know oodles about how the
mind/body works, so this surely must be even more so for people who are
brand new to the ideas most of us have been dealing with every day for many
years.

I would therefore ask the "young and enthusiastic" practitioners to discuss
with their clients if they would prefer a more supportive, longer term
approach to the therapy. Some people really need to be gentled along to a
place where they feel they can do things by themselves from now on, and this
might not happen overnight.

Although I'm not suggesting that we revert to the "45 years in therapy"
model we all so abhor, I think we might have gone the other way a little too
far, and with some particular types of clients, with the new energy
therapies.

Other views, comments, suggestions please.

Silvia
