EFT Case Story: Don't solve it - evolve it.

EFT Case Story: Don't solve it - evolve it.

Rachel Stapleton recently completed her EFT Master Practitioner training, via Distance Learning. As part of her assignments she wrote a case story focusing on 'Changing the Experience of Pain with EFT'.

Rachel tells us how on the first visit she finds a lady in chronic pain, unable to lead a normal life and in distress. Using EFT, a gentle touch and patience Rachel was able to observe dramatic results.

I visited Jennifer in her first floor flat, as she is unable to drive at the moment. When I rang the doorbell she opened an upstairs window and invited me to come up the stairs. We went through to her sitting room, she was walking very slowly and with a slight limp. She appeared to be in great pain and was holding her buttock and had a tense expression on her face.

She invited me to sit down and she sat down on the sofa very carefully and slowly, and then gently rested her legs on a footstool. She talked for about 10 minutes, and she explained she has been in severe pain and had lack of mobility for the last 7 months since experiencing severe back pain, whilst on holiday in Jersey, and had been unable to get out or do her usual activities since then.

She is still not clear how it happened but can only think it was the result of sitting badly, half on/half off a bus seat sitting next to an overweight gentleman for an hour. The pain developed a few hours later, and got progressively worse over the next few days, and required a doctors visit to her hotel bedroom. She has finally had some physiotherapy and then a few sessions of acupuncture but was still very limited in movement and had chronic pain, and was now on a waiting list for the chronic pain clinic.

She said the pain is worse when she is stressed, and worrying about all the things she cannot do at the moment. She is trying to wean herself off painkillers. I explained to her about EFT-- the tapping, set up, and the SUE scale, and that we would tap together. She was very interested despite having no experience of complementary therapies. She felt she was about -3 on the SUE scale. I suggested we did an initial round of tapping to introduce her to it, and suggested we use the set up phrase of 'Distress'.

Jennifer took to the tapping very easily, but looked uncomfortable standing, and was in obvious pain. I encouraged her to sit down afterwards and have some water. She looked quite spaced out, and had a surprised look on her face. She said she had a cool light tingling down her neck and into her shoulders, and it was spreading into to her arms. Her eyes looked very bright.

I then asked her to describe her pain. She said it was 'a nagging ache in the small of her back'.ย We tapped on that phrase, shortened to 'nagging ache'. When we tapped on the karate chop point she said she was having strong tingling feelings in that area.

After the round she looked quite stunned and sat down and had some water. After a few moments she said she had a warm soothing sensation over the sight of her back pain. She said the pain was still there, and had not gone away, but was less nagging..but she felt a relaxed and warm feeling in the area. She said she felt very tired, which surprised her.

I asked her if she would like to do another round, but she said she was too tired and could we leave it for now. We continued to chat for a while. I asked her if she now felt any different when she thought about the last 7 months.. she paused and then said she felt much more relaxed about it all, and less frustrated with her immobility. Her eyes looked very bright, and her face was more relaxed.

She said she found it hard to say where she felt was on the Sue scale following the session, but felt there had been a little positive movement. At this point I began to feel slightly nauseous and tingly over my back..which decreased when I drank some water. It came to me that it might be a good idea to proxy tap for her on the set up ' Jennifer feels relaxed', to round off the session. I suggested this and she seemed to like the idea. I then felt much better too.

After the proxy round she said she felt more relaxed and almost sleepy, and again she said how surprised she was to feel like that. She asked if she could do the tapping herself and I suggested she could tap 'distress' or any other phrase that came to her, when or if she felt she needed it, or if the pain was bad. I emphasized the phrase 'you don't need to solve it, but evolve it.', which she said she found helpful. She said she would like to do more tapping, and said she would email/phone me after a few days to let me know how she was doing, and to say when she could see me again.

I then noticed that she got up from the sofa with greater ease, and while chatting to me for a while standing up she appeared much more upright; she then walked down the stairs with me to the front door thanking me profusely..............

I revisited Jennifer a week later. She was looking much brighter and seemed to be moving more freely as she greeted me and sat down. She said she was feeling much more positive, and wondered it could be due to EFT! She said she was more accepting of the situation and feels keen to move forward, despite being aware that the pain may not go completely. She said she felt more mobile and had less nagging pain, and that she was now about +2 on Sue scale. She said she was taking fewer painkillers.

We did a set up of 'accepting and moving forward'. She said she felt tingles on karate chop point, and that this point and the clavicle point felt different, she felt more aware of them. Afterwards she felt very relaxed and very positive.

We did a second round on 'very positive'. This time we did the round sitting and gently touched the points rather than tapping, and she closed her eyes; her hands remained on her heart for several minutes in silence at the end. I waited for her to speak. After a while she opened her eyes and was smiling and looking very peaceful. Later she said she felt she was now + 4 on scale. She liked the lighter touch. She did not want to tap more there and then.

I said I felt that with further treatments we could go further up the scale, so we decided to continue after Christmas. I saw Jennifer briefly a few weeks later, and she said there had been a huge improvement in the days immediately after the last session, and now felt she was at +9/10 on Sue scale, and was going to cancel the Pain Clinic appointment.! This was a real transformation and healing event in her activity and mobility following two treatments, and she is virtually pain free.ย We tapped on 'full recovery'.

I saw her socially 2 months after the last session, and she said she is completely recovered, and has no problems with her back at all, and is back to her usual full active life.
